Visiting Scholar Program

The Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC) is soliciting applications from scholars of global studies broadly defined, with a preferred focus on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to serve as Visiting Scholars in Residence at Georgia Tech. This opportunity allows for research, teaching, and professional development that strengthen ties between the AGSC and scholars, centers, and departments with similar goals around the world. Visitors will also benefit from Georgia Tech’s world class library system, working with AGSC-affiliated graduated students and leading faculty in various fields both at Georgia Tech and GSU as well as at partner institutions.

Applicants may apply to be a visiting scholar for a period of two weeks up to nine months during the fall (mid August-mid December) or spring (mid January-mid May) semester, or both. Starting the residency in the summer semester (mid May-mid August) is also possible. Recent PhD recipients and junior scholars are particularly encouraged to apply.  Scholars will be expected to give guest lectures, public presentations, or contribute to instruction, when appropriate.

Visiting scholars provide their own financial support during the residency; including travel to/from Atlanta, housing, living expenses, subsistence, and any incidentals. Fees to cover hosting expenses may be collected ($1000/one-time plus $100 /month) but reduced rates and waivers may be available. AGSC may provide an honorarium of up to $500, upon completion of a public presentation. A video interview may be conducted before the final decision. Please note that this program does not provide visa sponsorship.

AGSC provides scholars office space, Georgia Tech library and internet access, and an orientation upon arrival. Scholars should utilize their time at Georgia Tech to collaborate with AGSC faculty affiliates on relevant research projects and to develop and improve courses and lectures on global studies/SDGs topics. In the application, Scholars are encouraged, but not required, to propose contributing to a graduate seminar course on a global/SDGs topic.
